One of my daughters was very negative when I told her she would need to stop doing something; this changeup would cost her social capital on the short end but on the long end would be beneficial. The distance between us was palpable.
After we talked, I thought of my wonderful journey with her precious life - holding her as a baby, playing with her as a toddler and little girl, watching her grow - and I thought of the love I have for her and all that I have invested in her. Probably our Father in heaven experiences something similar when he tries to direct us into something lifegiving but we just don't believe it is good for us. We don't see the profound love in all His dealings with us. We just don't get it.
